Judge Solomon Oliver, Jr.

Carl B. Stokes United States Court House

801 W. Superior Avenue Suite 17A

Cleveland, Ohio  44113-1838

Dear Honorable Judge Solomon Oliver, Jr.,

I am writing you in regard to Case Number 1:05CV0116, brought by Threesome Entertainment against Mifflin Township.  The citizens of Richland County are deeply concerned for Mifflin Township and all other Townships in Ohio subject to the onslaught of urban blight that will follow the opening of an adult cabaret, such as Threesome Entertainment is being allowed to open in our neighborhood of families.  As one of these concerned citizens, I am writing to you as a member of the Richland Community Family Coalition.  We have organized to share, peacefully and legally, with our lawmakers our desire to uphold laws and promote new laws to protect our communities from sexually oriented businesses.

There are many other citizens of Richland County who consider this a high priority case and are anxious to be rid of this business that has the potential, not only to bring urban blight, but increased drug use, drunk driving, prostitution, sexual predators and many other undesirable elements into our neighborhoods.  We have shared with our state Senators and Representatives our strong concerns and beliefs, and have asked them to expedite the passing of SB 27 in the Senate.  We know that you have ruled on a primary injunction allowing Threesome Entertainment to proceed with opening.  We believe that if we were able to share with you our valid concerns for our neighborhood, the proximity to schools and churches (within one mile or less), as well as being within 500 feet of residences, you would be better informed as to the situation in Mifflin Township.

We are awaiting the scheduling of your final ruling of this case on your docket so that we can attend as a peaceful citizenry, to show you our strong concern.  Our Mifflin Township Trustees have attempted to protect our neighborhood with zoning laws concerning sexually oriented businesses, but we as citizens of Richland County are concerned that these laws are not being upheld, and our families’, our children’s safety is being compromised in the name of allowing this sexually oriented business to operate under its First Amendment rights.  This is not an isolated case, as many other townships in many other states are dealing with this issue.  We trust that you will give this case your most thoughtful consideration as you rule on the fate of our community of families.

Respectfully,
